About Version Updater

Version Updater is a command-line software development utility designed to automatically update version numbers during the build or release process.

Currently, Version Updater is only compatible with the .NET languages C# and Visual Basic. At the time of writing, there are no plans to add support for other programming languages.

How it works

Version Updater is triggered by some mechanism before the compiler is executed. This can either be by using the pre-build event in your Visual Studio project’s properties or by using an external build tool such as NAnt.

The AssemblyVersion and/or AssemblyFileVersion attributes, usually maintained within the AssemblyInfo.* file, are updated using a specified configuration file that uses XML to describe the numerical structure of the new version.
